Service with a Smile

Wow! Pacific Beach Middle School volunteers are on a roll. Just off the top of my head I want to celebrate some huge accomplishments at PB Middle: We have four students who've volunteered over 100 hours to our local community. Our 8th grade students raised money for their families through the Read the Feed Program. We had a blast participating and working the SD Humane Society's Walk for Animals in May, thanks Cassidy. Builders Club loaned money small business owners in Vietnam, Peru, Afghanistan and Ghana and fed the homeless teens at a local shelter. AVID raised money for Leukemia Lymphoma and Mrs. Price's students donated time and money to raise awareness in the need to reduce terrorism by funding education in impoverished areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan through Pennies for Peace. This is a great way to support the IB Theme of Sharing Our Humanity. Thank you to the students and to teacher, Mr. Wood who donated time to complete the PBMS YearBook. Thanks to our Broadcast Club who worked tirelessly with Mr. Stoller and Cronk to produce a fun weekly bulletin. Thanks to the teachers who volunteered to run surf-club, especially Mr. Kaston, Mr. Stoller, Mr. Cronk and the rest of the Math Department. You rock. Thanks to the students who have worked hard to keep our school clean. Thanks to our PBMS parents who were on site all year supporting the classroom, teachers, school-wide function, keeping our school clean and organized, helping to organize events and fundraising through FOPBSS. Thank you for Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you to all of our community groups who support our school including PB Kiwanis, Sada Felix and Yvetter McKany's Gear-Up, Soroptomist International of Mission Bay (free French lessons w/ Jeanine James & the IB Award for MBHS student), PB Town Council for our free Beachfest Booth, FOPBSS, Ace Hardware and so many more. Thanks to SD Service Learning Council for providing us resources for our service requirements. Together we make this an awesome place to work, learn and live. Way to go. Keep up the hard work. PBMS teachers, remember 6th and 7th grade service hours are due to Mrs. Sims on Wednesday, May 21st.
