San Diego Fires
by Dylan Bailey
We just got back from a trip to Los Angeles and stopped for food at Chili’s restaurant. When we walked out, I told my mom that I could smell smoke. We looked for a fire. At first we saw nothing and drove home. The next morning was Monday and the news was all about the fires. Now we saw smoke. Since my school is not in the neighborhood, my mom decided to home school me that day.
The fires were like flamed snowballs – they just kept getting bigger and bigger.
On Tuesday, my mom and I had originally planned to go to the market yet the TV anchors and smoke outside kept reminding us to stay indoors. Since we had been away, we had little food. A friend in another state actually ordered pizza and chicken for us and had it delivered so we would not have to go out. We stayed inside for 5 days. My mom even boiled water so we would not drink anything contaminated.
The last day we finally went out to the market and Burger King as I got tired of our canned food supply.
My typical days schedule went like this: Watch T.V. Play with my Cat, sleep, play video games and check email, eat lunch relax, and eat again, and walk around and exercise. I called my friend Ryan to see what was going on since he was performing High School Musical the Play at the JayCee in La Jolla . I called some friends and kept guard through most of the week since we were surrounded by the fires. Then we went to see my grandparents who were fine.
That is how I spent my week in the fires.
