Rusty at J-Tree
Photo by Vivimedia We just returned from a week in Joshua Tree. It's cool how we can travel with our friends and regardless of where we set up camp, we create an instant community. We may not see each other every day at home but we camp for a week straight and it's like insta-family, just add big wonderland of rocks. We go to Joshua Tree for New Years, it's a ritual. After years of camping out at the same place we've seen babies grow into kids who are awesome climbers (go Rusty, Reace and Curtis!). We've met many friends who stop by camp to say "hi". We don't even know people's last names but we are a community, maybe because we camp together and climb or maybe it's just because we try hard to be friendly and curteous even when other people aren't necessarily the same back. Maybe it's because we're doing something dangerous, climbing, and that makes us trust one-another and helps forge a bond, dunno.
Define community--Who is your community? Why? Is it the stuff you do or the types of people that help create community?
