10 Ideas for IB MYP Community Projects
1) investigate needs at the local library, Town Council, Kiwanis, Rotary, or similar service organization
2) take on coordination or a membership drive for a club at school
3) create an alumni page where they interview alumni and share their memories about their years at the school
4) publish a guide for newcomer students and work with a multi-lingual team to publish it in a variety of languages
5) become an historian who researches, organizes, indexes, designs, and shares an online historical archive for a given community event, location, or group of people
6) document and share stories of older community members before they are lost forever (tribal elders, community activists, the oldest person in town, original female surfers at a local break, the first female to play little league, hockey, or football in your neighborhood, the last ranchers in an area slated to be developed, or owners of the oldest houses in town)
7) if you have persevered in the face of adversity you may want to write a picture book about the skill of persevering and donate it to your elementary school library
8) start an annual award for the best Ocean-Friendly or best water-wise garden within a mile from the school by researching the criteria, promoting the contest, and designing a sign for the winning house, apartment or business
9) start a lunch-bunch volunteer group that welcomes and guides new students at lunch
10) design a GIS map online that and documents man-made and natural changes such as erosion, debris, trail-use, etc. in a local canyon or at a local beach
